Southwest vs. East End
The Mavs took on the East End Explorers on Friday with an opportunity to avenge their only loss of the pre-season. With several players out for the Student Council retreat, the Mavs had to dig deep to complete with a smaller-than-usual squad. Junior striker Carlos Morales scored his first goal of the season midway through the first half, but the Explorers tied things up right before the end of the first half.
In the second half, Morales scored his second goal of the game before the Explorers again netted an equalizer. Then with less than 10 minutes remaining, sophomore Brandon Alvarado scored the go-ahead goal off a rebound from Morales’s missed penalty kick.
The Mavs looked like they would be able to secure a 3-2 victory, but with less than a minute left, the Explorers surprised the Mav defense with a strike from midfield that found the back of the net.
The final score of 3-3 moves the Mavs pre-season record to 2-1-2.
