Catching up with Lady Mavs!

Written By: Liavonni Eaglin and Morgan Billingsley

On Tuesday, October 3rd, we, The Lady Mavericks, had to learn an important lesson about fighting through adversity. With our starting setter out with an injury, we had to rally together to really support teammates who were playing in positions that they may not have been used to and learned very early that our communication had to be better than it has ever been. Even after losing the first two sets of the match, we never gave up. We forced ourselves to come to the middle after each play, celebrate points and used our missed points as opportunities to communicate to each other about what could have gone better. After a while, we began to play as a team and WE DID IT! In a tough match, we pulled out the win and were looking forward to Friday’s match!

Friday, October 6th

This Friday our Mavs spent their day off on the court, adding another win under their belts! Our Varsity girls played at Home against ‘Harmony School Of Advancement.

The game started off rough, lady Mavs lost their first set 19-25. They won the second set with a tough fight, 27-25. The third set was a quick win for the Mavs with, 25-16. Going into the fourth set it was 2 wins and 1 loss, they lost, but not without a fight, 20-25. The Mavs went into their 5th and final set, they took a well-deserved win with 15-6, winning the game.

After the game, the Mavs welcomed a new member to the family! We want to welcome Bubba! Today, Coach Conway introduced Bubba as the “trophy” for the player who shows the most leadership, character or sportsmanship in the game and she decided that Bubba should go home with Briza Armenta. Briza, has stepped up and into a major role this week as she had to abruptly fill our setter position. Although Briza has had little to no training as a setter, she was able to lead the team to a victory with her adaption and a big heart. Way to go, Briza!

Our next home game is Friday, October 9th . Come to support Lady Mavs as they rekindle a rematch with Brays Oaks.  Be there Friday in your Pink to support Lady Mavs on Pink Out night, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
