After a long Labor Day weekend, we were excited to hop back on the court for our second game of the season. This home game was against our Southwest Houston ‘rival’ Brays Oaks. After losing to them last year at our last game of the season, we were eager to claim our ‘name’ back. For us, this game was way more than a win or lose. It was a sign of all the hard work we’ve put in, all the challenges we overcame, and the growth we made as a team since last year. As corny as it sounds we did not just want to win for each other, we wanted to win for the school. That’s exactly what we did.
The first set we came to show the growth. We won that set 25-13. I think set 2 was our best set so far this season. It was so good because we played for each other, it was a different feeling. We dominated that set 25-9. Set 3 was just about finishing the game as aggressively as possible. We finished 25-15. After the game, it was a different mood entirely. We felt closer to each other. It was like we played for each other and not ourselves. Our team bond grew stronger tonight.
Our family friend Bubba was awarded to Morgan Billingsley. Morgan not only maintained the energy, she also played every ball aggressively. Morgan had a tough time in set 2, instead of letting it get to her, she shook it off and worked 10 times harder, not only for herself but for her team. The team and I are excited to see Morgan grow and see how she overcomes adversity this season!
